For my inquiry project, I am going to pursue long-distance running. More specifically, I want to start getting seriously into running by scaffolding distances by larger increments each week until I eventually train up to a half-marathon.
Talking About Why I Chose My Topic/My Goals
I have always liked the idea of picking up running as a hobby but now I feel like it would be a good time to take it a bit more seriously. I used to run lots in high school to condition for my sports but not so much now.
Living in a city like Victoria also inspires me to run because of the beautiful landscape and nature, especially the ocean. It is also easier because it is very flat here compared to my hometown of Kamloops where it is covered in mountains.
I also am taking this as an opportunity to improve my physical/mental health and fitness while I am going through a strenuous program.
I have never run over 5km in one session so I want to build past this and then make bench marks along the way.
My goals are not only to develop a new hobby, get outside more, and improve my fitness but also to push myself with something difficult and to achieve a big goal: complete a half-marathon in the Spring.
I want to not only hit my distance targets but also improve satisfying times on each of them where I feel good after the runs and not like I’m dying without anything left by the end. Therefore, I will also learn to pick up strategies for things like proper breathing, pre-stretching, meals, and recovery.
Initial Resources That I Think I Will Use

As well as a half-marathon training program that my friend Amy is developing and helping me with – coming soon
